Valentino Rossi secures sportscar outing at Monza
Valentino Rossi is to return to the sportscar cockpit later this month when he takes part in the opening round of the Blancpain Endurance Series at Monza on April 15.
The former MotoGP champion will drive a Ferrari 458 alongside friend Alessio Salucci for the Kessel Racing team.
"We really decided at the last minute to participate in the Blancpain Endurance Series event in Monza, and to race in partnership with my friend Uccio is a very big pleasure," said Rossi about his one-off appearance.
Rossi has often hinted at a future in circuit racing or rallying when he calls time on his MotoGP career.
Blancpain series chief Stephane Ratel - who also heads up World GT1 and European GT3 - hopes that Rossi might be tempted to make the one-off outing the first of many.
"For many years I have been saying that from all of the world-class drivers and riders, the one I would most like to welcome in GT racing is Valentino Rossi," Ratel said.
"He is the ultimate motorsport hero and we must hope he will consider joining our championships on a more regular manner at some point in his outstanding career.
"At Monza, in a Ferrari, we could not have expected a better combination to make the event a success."

The big chance though is CRT (Claiming Rule Teams). Railroaded though in order to fill up a grid that was at times emaciated, it's basically a chance for 'garagistes' to build a bike and have a go, rather like Williams and Tyrrell did in Formula 1. Alas there is no off-the-shelf Cosworth DFV anyone can just slot in, but the carrot for these guys is they can use any engine they wish so long as it has been deemed a CRT engine by the GP Commission. That means teams can use heavily modified production engines full of very trick bits. Team are also free to use any frame, shockers, aero and electrics.
CRT bikes are making their debut this year
CRT bikes are making their debut this year © XPB
The bigger carrot is 12 engines per season, rather than just the six for factory teams. They also get 24 litres of fuel as opposed to factory limit of 21. However, to prevent a manufacturer coming into MotoGP through the back door, any other team can 'claim' a CRT bike's engine for €20,000 – literally while it's still warm in parc ferme.

Dosadno do boli...

Edwards suffers fractured collarbone in MotoGP qualifying crash
Colin Edwards has suffered a fractured collarbone in a qualifying crash at MotoGP's Portuguese Grand Prix.
The American, who sustained a similar injury at Catalunya last year and also suffered arm injuries in Malaysia, was involved in a collision with Randy de Puniet.
Edwards was on a slow lap and had pulled his Forward Racing Suter-BMW off the racing line as Aspar Aprilia rider de Puniet came past him into Turn 4 at Estoril.
But de Puniet lost control of his bike and fell, crashing into Edwards and knocking the American to the ground as well. Edwards landed on his shoulder, and had to be taken away from the scene on a stretcher.
De Puniet also visited the medical centre for precautionary checks, and is believed to have escaped injury.

Ducati believes a planned new engine is the only hope to keep Valentino Rossi
Ducati team boss Vittoriani Guareschi has labelled Ducati's planned new engine as the 'only hope' of convincing Valentino Rossi to stay at the squad, after the seven-time champion expressed his concern that there appeared to be no solution to the team's current struggles.
Guareschi said he wants to retain Rossi for the 2013 season, but admitted time was running out to convince the Italian to stay.
He also said Ducati's new engine was evidence it had not stopped moving forward - something Rossi implied prior to the Dutch TT - but admitted that it has been difficult to accelerate the rate of development given existing deals with suppliers.
"We have never stopped, as demonstrated by the fact that we are working on a reviewed engine that should be ready for Laguna Seca," Guareschi told Gazzetta dello Sport.
"We do our development programs at the beginning of the year, but to accelerate is difficult, because we design in-house, but production is done together with suppliers, over whom we have little chance of intervention.
"Let's hope the engine works, because that's our only hope to convince Valentino to stay. We'd like to keep both him and Nicky, but there isn't much time, because usually the market deals close at Brno."
His comments come in the wake of renewed criticism of Ducati's current situation from Rossi, who said he could see "no solutions" in the team's immediate future.
Rossi, who finished 1.3s down on Casey Stoner in qualifying at Assen even before a rear tyre issue curtailed his race, said the fact Honda brought a new chassis to Holland highlighted the development problems at Ducati.
"Honda, who are already quick so in theory are less in need than we are, have nevertheless brought a new chassis because they believe a lot more work is needed, because they always want to improve," he told Italia1.
"At Ducati, instead, there is no such plan. An engine with different characteristics is forthcoming, but as far as the real problem is concerned, which I've already explained months ago, I see no solutions on the horizon.
"It's not a matter of time, there simply are no ideas to solve the situation. Obviously what we riders say is not taken into consideration.
"I repeat: there's no plan."
While Rossi was cagey on whether top management should be blamed, Guareschi vigorously defended the role of Ducati Corse head Filippo Preziosi.
"Is Preziosi under discussion? Filippo is everything for Ducati and I sincerely struggle to imagine a situation without him at Borgo Panigale."

Valentino Rossi says it's too early for him to make a decision about his 2013 MotoGP team
Valentino Rossi says it is still "too early" for him to make a decision regarding his 2013 plans but expects to reach a conclusion during MotoGP's summer break.
The seven-time MotoGP champion had looked increasingly likely to stay put at Ducati, where he has struggled for success since joining at the start of 2011. But in recent weeks speculation about a return to the works Yamaha fold for Rossi has intensified, particularly after Ben Spies' shock announcement that he was quitting the team.
Rossi confirmed he was in advanced negotiations over a contract extension with Ducati, but underlined that he had alternatives.
"The situation is quite clear. I still haven't decided, because it's a bit too early," Rossi said.
"I spoke a lot with Ducati about next year and I'm still waiting about some of the details and some of the contract. I also have some other options."
After this weekend's Laguna Seca race, MotoGP takes a three-week pause before resuming with back-to-back events at Indianapolis and Brno.
Rossi believes his future will be settled by the time the series resumes in America in mid-August.
"I think the situation will be more clear in the next weeks and in the summer break I will decide for next year," he said.

Da, nije to to...nadajmo se dogodine.
-
Srce mi je stalo kad sam vidio di i kako je pao :o
-
-
-
Honda opet, volio bih to više od Yamahe.
-
Ducati daje 17 milja dvi vise nego prosli ugovor, i mislim da ce ducati dati dobru masineriju dogodine ,i duboko se nadam da ce biti troboj, jer su tvornicke yamahe i honde vec postale dosadne..
-
Nije Ducati, nego Audi.... ;D
svakako, bolje troboj nego dvoboj
-
-

Jonathan Rea set to make MotoGP debut as stand-in for injured Casey Stoner
Jonathan Rea is set to make his MotoGP debut as Casey Stoner's Honda stand-in for the Misano and Aragon races.
The 25-year-old World Superbike racer, who is currently fifth in the WSBK standings with the Ten Kate Honda team, will test the works Honda MotoGP bike at Brno on Monday and again at Aragon on 4-5 September.
Stoner had to fly back to Australia earlier this week after it became clear that the ankle he injured at Indianapolis will require surgery.
A Honda team statement said that "doctors anticipate" that Stoner will have to skip the next two MotoGP rounds. Rea will therefore replace him.
Neither Misano nor Aragon clashes with this year's WSBK calendar.
The Briton already has some MotoGP testing experience but has never raced in the series.
Honda's remaining works MotoGP rider Dani Pedrosa is now within 13 points of championship leader Jorge Lorenzo after winning in the Czech Republic this weekend.

Suzuki working on 2014 MotoGP returnSuzuki working on 2014 MotoGP return
Suzuki wants to return to MotoGP from 2014, but has ruled out entering any races as a wildcard next year.
The outfit's MotoGP project leader Satoru Terada says the programme is yet to receive definitive confirmation from Suzuki management, but revealed plans were already underway to return with a full programme in two season's time.
"A return in 2014 is our objective: are working hard towards it," Terada told Motosprint.
"I must say that we haven't been given definitive confirmation yet, because the final decision is up to top management, as that's where the budget comes from.
"These decisions are made at the top level: the people working in the racing departments can't do anything. However, after a year of reflection, the top management, too, has now understood we can start over.
"Suzuki has a long history in grand prix racing, it has practically always raced, and nobody liked the decision to suspend the MotoGP project at the end of 2011."
Terada explained that the 2014 target was based upon building an entirely new bike and with the aim of being competitive from the outset - and ruled out any wildcard appearances next year for the same reasons.
"2014 is a much more realistic objective," he said. "We want to do things well, and this needs some time.
"We started from a new concept, also because we have redesigned the engine and this means a complete change to the entire project.
"I rule out [wildcard entries in 2013]. When we decide to race, we'll do that by lodging an entry in the championship - from the start. We are not interested in doing tests as wild card entries."
Asked whether he was happy with the level of performance of Suzuki's MotoGP prototype, he said: "Not yet, but it's not as if we expected extraordinary results at this time of the year.
"We have only just started, and we'll race in 2014, so there is still time.
"[The bike is] still a prototype, in the sense that its use is to gather data needed to build the definitive bike, the one we'll enter in the races.
"What's important is that the passion for racing has stayed with us. We are doing everything possible to meet [the 2014] timeframe."
